Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – January 19, 2004 – At the end of a long day – there is nothing quite as relaxing as a nice warm soak in a tub, filled with scented oils or bath bubbles. A great CD in the background and a few soft candles.
If it’s been a particularly taxing or frustrating day, this can be a good time to re-cap your thoughts or plan ahead for tomorrow. Let the water soothe your body, mind and soul. Feels good doesn’t it?
There are times when I can imagine ‘my end of day ritual’ even if it’s only four o’clock in the afternoon. Something to look forward to, that is just for my personal enjoyment. A glass of wine or a hot tea with honey or lemon can be an added bonus.
With bath time over – there is nothing better than drying off with a thick, fluffy white towel. Wrap one around your head and another around your body and snuggle into the soft fabric until you’re completely dry. Time now for a scented body lotion, your favourite facial moisturizer and a rich hand cream. Towels can now be set aside in favour of a snuggly white terrycloth or velour robe.
Belted at the waist and knee or full length – whichever is your preference. My personal favourites are white towels and robes – but any colour is great – as long as it makes you feel good. Stay wrapped up in your bathrobe for fifteen or twenty minutes – until it’s time to slip into bed. Life just doesn’t get any better than this!
A hot shower is good too – if you don’t happen to be bath person, but take time to have a nice long shower – not just a quick rinse off. The goal is to be relaxed by the time you’re warm, dry and ready for bed. If you’re not used to this kind of personal pampering – it may take you some time to adjust to being kind to yourself – but it’s worthwhile developing this simple bed time habit.
I love being warm and I’m so thankful for this divine end-of-day rite. Get into the habit of treating yourself to these simple pleasures – your body and mind will thank you – guaranteed!
