A Good Kind Of Tired
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 16, 2004 – By the time I got to bed last night it was almost one thirty in the morning. I was so tired that I couldn’t sleep and I tossed and turned until after four. Augie was at my bedside at six thirty wanting bathroom parade followed by bickies. I opened one eye and looked at him – invader of my sleep – heartless little, white devil dog. Ziggy reached over the bed and swatted Augie on the nose. There was no point in trying to ignore these four footed friends – I got up.
I fed the Alphabet Boys when I got back from my walk with Augie and then made a cup of tea and sat down at my computer. I returned a few client e-mails and then checked the real estate Hot Sheets for new listings. By eight-thirty I started to make my morning phone calls. It was no use. I was tongue tied with fatigue. I went back upstairs and slept for an hour.
Last night I got two clients settled into new homes. Both of them have been looking for a long time. I presented one offer in the west end of the city, and my Broker Larry, did the other one in the city core. Both were multiple offers – more than one person wanted the property at the same time. My offer presentation had 7 bids and Larry’s had 2. Both were successful, but the work took all day yesterday and most of last evening.
Hence my aforementioned Big Mac escapade and my fatigue today. I had a few errands to run and then headed into the office to drop off the client paperwork with Gaby , our office administrator. I sat chatting with her and yawning. On my way home I decided to pick up some groceries at Sobey’s.
Back at home I puttered around in my office and then booked some client showings for tomorrow. A few business phone calls tonight and that’s it for me. I’m beat and I’m going to have a long bath and then go to bed. I have happy clients looking forward to new phases in their lives.
I know the work I do is important and appreciated. I make a difference in peoples’ lives and that’s a very rewarding thing to understand. So in spite of the fact that I’m bleary-eyed and need to get caught up on my sleep, it’s okay – this is “a good kind of tired”.
