Bali – Indonesia: Dogs Butchered Alive
Bali Dogs Butchered Alive – With a rope around it’s neck, the dog in the photograph is hung from a tree and while still alive, a WOMAN begins hacking large strips of fur covered meat from the dog’s body. 70% of 100,000 dogs a year are killed in Indonesia in this despicable manner, as shown in a undercover study conducted over two years by BAWA.
The animal warriors at www.SayNoToDogMeat.net are trying to stop the appalling cruelty that is happening every day in Bali, Indonesia. This barbaric treatment of animals must be brought to the attention of people around the world. Thank you for all that you are doing.
As a concerned animal advocate you can:
1) Choose NOT to travel to Bali.

4) Make your opinions known to Bali Government officials.
The study results are heart wrenching and alarming. Dog meat is always referred to as RW in Indonesia. Undercover operations have secured details with comprehensive information of 70 dog meat eateries (known as warungs) across the island and estimate there are also another 30 or more warungs.
The following information is from BAWA’s study:
Around 100,000 dogs are brutally killed each year for sale in dog meat restaurants, in horrific circumstances.
70% of the dogs are cut up while still alive; the dogs are hung from a tree and while still very much alive, [people begin slicing large sections of fur covered flesh off them.]
25% of the dogs are poisoned
1% of the dogs are shot with air rifles while 4% of dogs are inhumanely killed using other methods.
A dog sells from Rp15,000 to Rp40,000 local money and each Bali warung (dog meat eatery) uses between ½ and 7 dogs a day
From a 15kg dog a warung can make around 40 portions of soup or satay, which sell for Rp15,000 – Rp20,000 per portion with rice
50% of people who eat dog meat are native Balinese; and 50% are from other areas of Indonesia including Medan, Flores, Sumatra and Manado.
80% of people who eat dog meat in the northern Bali regency of Buleleng are Balinese.
45% of dogs destined for dog meat are sold to traders; 5% are given by owners in exchange for rice, chilies, baskets and so on.
50% of RW dogs are stolen from the streets and from houses, including people’s pets.
95% of RW dogs are transported by motorbikes; 5% are moved by bus and truck.
50% of RW warungs in Bali are supplied with dogs from other regencies. Moving dogs across Bali regency borders is illegal.
Tourism and Rabies
Bali’s a hot spot tourist destination for beach resorts, cheap cocktails, cheap shopping and cheap food, as well as a small quota of high end resorts and Saps. Its commonly called Island of the Gods. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve spoken with who tell me how nice it is to see (stray) dogs running on the beach in Bali.
What tourists fail to comprehend is the happy dogs running on the beach are the future dog meat dogs that will be hung and sliced up. The remaining dogs which are not tricked into being snared by dog snatchers will be poisoned by city authorities, after the tourist season ends.
If you eat satay-kebabs from street cafes in Indonesia, you’ve probably eaten dog. Its not a laughing matter because many of the dogs are also heavily diseased with parasites and some have rabies and other diseases which can be life threatening to humans.
Rabies is a serious problem in Indonesia and once contracted it is very difficult to get post-exposure vaccinations in Indonesia, even in the big cities. Once rabies symptoms show, it is100% fatal. Dog rabies can be transmitted to humans even after the dog is dead. Rabies symptoms in humans incubate and can take between 3 days and 7 years to surface. Aseemingly healthy looking dog can be incubating rabies for 7 months without showing symptoms; these are known as ‘carriers.’ Rabies is shed through the dog’s saliva.
Saynotodogmeat.Net has spent time in Indonesia (where many of the dog meat customers are christians.) Saynotodogmeat.Net has team members and many supporters throughout Indonesia, who also desperately want the dog trade to end. Enough is enough.
