The Truth Has A Mighty Heart
Let me start by saying that I celebrate all humans who are kind to and respect animals – either their own or those with whom they interact in life. This post is in no way a condemnation of people. However it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words and never is this more true than when it comes to how humans treat animals. The truth has a mighty heart and it will seek to be revealed. My goal with A Beating Heart is to raise awareness about the unseen – the unspoken – the unjust. The dirty little secrets that individuals – corporations and governments just don’t want us to think about. From factory farming to fur farms – animal shelters to animal fighting – rodeos – horsemeat and live animal shipment – to endangered animals who are currently on the red-line threatened list and are still slaughtered nonetheless.
NOTE: Some Pictures or Content May be Graphic or Disturbing To Younger or Sensitive Readers
If “we the people” would just hide our pretty little heads, cover our faces, not look at the awful pictures, remove our humanity and our compassion – then the appalling treatment of animals for profit could continue unabated. I know that it’s way too late to pretend that these things don’t happen. Every sentient being on earth has a right to life and to exist in peace. Who made mankind the arbiter of life? We’re not doing a very good job of it are we?
For hundred of years man has fought his wars, suppressed the voice of dissent, oppressed the weak, tolerated bullies and supported political corruption. That’s what he does to his fellow man – so is it any wonder that he continues to plunder the planet and force animals to serve at his behest with no regard for their comfort, care and well-being.
There is almost always a dollar sign attached to an animal. What is it worth? How best to maximize profit? How can we minimize care and commitment and thus our financial obligation to the animal? How soon can it be killed for a profit? How long can it function as a money making entity for us? When it no longer has a function how quickly, inexpensively and efficiently can we kill it? Are there any other last minute ways that it can make us money before we get rid of it?
We are all complicit. It doesn’t matter if we don’t personally beat our dogs. We know that animal protection laws are lax, factory farming is appalling, fur farms and by default the fashion industry torture animals, endangered species are being decimated for trinkets, criminals fight and kill dogs and wildlife crime is flourishing. The circus maintains it’s status as a go-see extravaganza in spite of known animal torture during training. Whales, sharks, fish and turtles are hunted without regard for their declining numbers.

But still we are busy, busy little people. Places to go – things to do – people to see – vacations to plan – promotions to chase and so many things to buy. I’m not saying that having a wonderful life is a bad thing or that all people are cruel. Far from it. There are many concerned, caring and compassionate people all over the world doing their best to make things safer and more just for other people, for animals and the planet.
But if we are ever to move past the darkness in the human soul that allows cruely to exist – then inaction is no longer an option. Political correctness is past the best before date. We need to stand up together and say “enough”. Seven years ago when I started to learn about global animals issues I was un-seeing. Now I know better. I will never put rose-coloured glasses back on and pretend that I don’t know what we do to animals. If anyone ever asks – “did you try to help” – I don’t want to stammer and say – “well I always wanted to but” …
Experimentation
The world will be passed along to the next generation. Will our legacy be one of plunder, exploitation, cruelty, ignorance, inaction and apathy?
Is this the best that we can do?
The truth has a mighty heart and every one of these pictuers is speaking a more profound and powerful truth than words can ever express. We as a human collective allow this global animal tyranny!
This photo gallery is a snap-shot of how we are treating the animals with whom we share the planet.
These pictures are not easy to view but I urge you to look at them. Humanity is the common denominator.
